Fáilte Isteach

Fáilte go dtí Gaelscoil Uileog de Búrca, a co-educational, rural, all-Irish speaking primary school in which every pupil knows every other pupil. The school was established in 1989 by a small group of local parents who saw the benefits of an education through the medium of Irish.

Bainistíocht - Management

This seven teacher school is funded by the Department of Education and Skills and follows the National Curriculum. It is managed by a board whose members represent the Catholic Church, parents, teachers and members of the wider community. Parent involvement is actively encouraged and facilitated. There is an active Parents’ Association in the school.

Gaeilge & Oideachas

Irish Language & Education All aspects of the school day are conducted through the medium of Irish. Young children benefit from learning through a second language from an early age. Children will acquire this second language in a manner similar to that in which they acquired their first language – by understanding, listening, isolating structures and eventually producing words, phrases and sentences. It is the policy of the school to encourage the use of Irish among the children, thereby creating an ideal learning environment. This also benefits our pupils as they pass through the Secondary Education system. With the emphasis clearly shifting towards oral Irish, the Department of Education and Skills now awards 40% of the Leaving Certificate to the oral exam. Every year a Síle Nic Aogáin Scholarship allows a pupil from sixth class to attend Coláiste Chamuis, Indreabhán, Co. Galway, free of charge during the summer holidays.

Sláinte agus Sonas – Health and Happiness

The happiness and well-being of all pupils is our principal aim. In our school we aspire to the creation and sustenance of an enjoyable, positive and challenging atmosphere for everyone so that each child can reach their full potential. We encourage every child to respect diversity in school and in the environment.

Ceisteanna agus Freagraí – Questions and Answers

Do I need Irish to send my child to the Gaelscoil?

No - It’s not essential for parents themselves to speak Irish. Parents may have no Irish or have forgotten their Irish when their children first attend, but they can learn with their children.

Will my child find it difficult to learn Irish?

No - All subjects are learned through Irish in a fun and stimulating way so that the children develop a love for Irish and a love of learning.
